What Do Banker, Player, and Tie Mean in Baccarat?

In baccarat, there are three primary betting options: Banker, Player, and Tie. These terms represent the possible outcomes you can wager on, not actual participants.

🏦 Banker Bet

  • This is a bet that the Banker hand will win.
  • Despite the name, the Banker does not refer to the house—it’s simply one of the two hands dealt.
  • The Banker bet has a slightly higher chance of winning, which is why casinos charge a 5% commission on Banker bet winnings.
  • Payout: 1 to 1 (minus commission)

🙋 Player Bet

  • This is a bet that the Player hand will win.
  • Like the Banker, the Player is just one of the two hands dealt in the game.
  • There is no commission on Player bet winnings.
  • Payout: 1 to 1

⚖️ Tie Bet

  • This is a bet that the Banker and Player hands will tie (have the same point total).
  • This is the least likely outcome but offers a much higher payout.
  • Payout: Typically 8:1 or 9:1, depending on the casino.
