In European Roulette, the wheel has 37 numbered slots (1–36 and a single zero (0)). The zero is colored green and plays a unique role in the game. Betting on zero offers several options, from high-payout straight bets to combination bets with higher chances of winning.
Betting Options on Zero
1. Straight-Up Bet on Zero
How to Place: Place your chip directly on the number 0.
Payout: 35 to 1
Outcome: If the ball lands on zero, you win 35 times your bet plus your original stake.
2. Split Bet (Zero and 1, 2, or 3)
How to Place: Place your chip on the line between zero and one of its neighboring numbers (1, 2, or 3).
Payout: 17 to 1
Outcome: If the ball lands on zero or the neighboring number, you win 17 times your bet plus your original stake.
3. Street Bet (Zero, 1, and 2) or (Zero, 2, and 3)
How to Place: Place your chip on the line covering a row of three numbers, including zero.
Payout: 11 to 1
Outcome: If the ball lands on any of the three numbers, you win 11 times your bet plus your original stake.
4. Corner Bet (Zero, 1, 2, and 3)
How to Place: Place your chip at the corner intersection of 0, 1, 2, and 3.
Payout: 8 to 1
Outcome: If the ball lands on any of these four numbers, you win 8 times your bet plus your original stake.
Note: The Five-Number Bet (covering 0, 00, 1, 2, 3) is available in American Roulette only and does not apply to the European wheel. The four-number equivalent in European Roulette is the Corner Bet (0, 1, 2, 3), covered above at 8:1.
House Edge Consideration
While these bets vary in payout and winning chances, all carry the same house edge of 2.7% in European Roulette. The best option depends on your personal strategy and risk preference.
